Did you know lots of us set our New Year’s resolutions in spring?

There is a new culture of understanding that setting New Year’s resolutions in a season of death or dormancy doesn’t resonate with us anymore. Instead we are allowing the winter season to do its thing and breathe in Spring as the season of rebirth and renewal.

The shift is happening

Over the past year or so, the collective shift has acknowledged that setting New Year’s resolutions in a season of healing, releasing, and letting go doesn’t necessarily connect and that is maybe why we mostly fail when it comes to sticking to our resolutions.

Did you know winter season is for healing

Yes, winter historically, with the days shorter and hibernation kicking in full gear, is meant for us to look within ourselves. Think of a cocoon. We go within and explore the shadowy side of our being. This gives us the opportunity to really understand what we want to let go of and heal from. That is why I love winter! I am a total hermit in winter, and all I do is write. We can embrace our shadow self and allow her or him tell us what needs to be released, and that is exactly what we do in winter. So for me, setting a resolution or new me in January I know will not work, because I am still doing the healing work.

What I will tell you is that doing the healing work, I always ask my higher self what she wants to bring in for the year, so this allows me to set an intention and just let it be.

AHHHH, Spring!

Nothing feels like a breath of fresh air more than seeing the icicles begin to melt, the snow slowly fading away, at some point seeing the robins return and the crocus beginning to emerge from the ground. What beautiful signs and symbols that tell us it’s time to awaken yourself. Feel a full stretch in your body, take a big breath in, and get ready to begin to take the intention that you set and really play with it.

What happens from winter to spring spiritually

What just occurred from winter to spring is a full cycle of healing. You sit back, eat lots of soups and hearty quality foods, and just let what surfaces go. Any anger, resentment, old attachments — poof, just release. The intention you set for a stronger, more connected you can now come out of hibernation and breathe in the fresh crisp air and allow your rebirth to settle into the season. It’s quite beautiful when you think about it.

Give thanks and grace

I always give thanks and grace for God’s work during my season of untethering and ask what I can do as an act of service. This is the cycle of abundance we can’t simply take and not put back. So I always give back to my community, my clients, etc.

Spring 2023 intention

One of the gifts you can give yourself this winter season is the gift of asking your higher self what is it that you need to accomplish or release before spring. See what happens, journal it, meditate on it. I feel buzzing like a busy bee this spring, so that’s good energy, soak that up! I wish you all the best on this adventure of shadow work.

Much love,
