Our sacral chakra or Svadhisthana is the 2nd chakra connected to our creativity, sexuality and pleasure center.
The Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana is the 2nd chakra. It is orange in color and located about 2 inches below your belly button. This is the chakra of our creativity, wants and desires, and emotions. It is the center of our sexuality, intimacy, and pleasure. The 2nd chakra is also the center of our inner child which can be selfish, playful, jealous, inconsistent, and endearing. It is associated with the element of water, as this chakra is about the ebb and flow of our cycles and emotions. The mantra for the orange chakra is “I desire.” This is the chakra that is engaged when we are singing, dancing, creating, making love, and enjoying the beauty of the world. It is what moves us from just surviving in the world to living in it.
It is not surprising that this chakra is associated with the sexual and reproductive organs as well as the kidney and bladder. An imbalance in the sacral can show up in our physical bodies as UTIs, kidney and bladder infections, low or overly active sexual drive, infertility, and lower back pain.
When the Sacral Chakra is in balance, we enjoy life, are able to create and birth new ideas into the world, and have well-balanced and healthy relationships with ourselves and others. When we focus too much on our wants or put the wants of others ahead of our own, this chakra can become blocked. Not only can this show up in the physical body as mentioned above, but an imbalance can also reveal itself in the emotional and mental bodies, including feeling overwhelmed by emotions, not being able to express or talk about our feelings and/or needs, being overly preoccupied or completely uninterested with sex, and a lack of creativity.
There are many ways to bring balance to Svadhisthana. Get the lower abdomen moving through hip circles, belly dancing, or yoga poses that focus on aligning the sacral chakra, like a goddess, warrior, and happy baby. Sing. Be in nature, especially near or in water. Marvel at the beauty of the world and all around you. Get lost in your favorite song or painting. Color a mandala with colors you love. Meditate with a focus on a balanced 2nd chakra. Surround yourself with the color orange. Eat orange foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, and oranges. CHOCOLATE! Or any other food you enjoy. Savor each and every bite you put in your mouth. Use orange crystals and ones that focus on healing emotional and/or intimacy issues such as carnelian, orange calcite, bloodstone, moonstone, snowflake obsidian, and amber.
