WHAT IS ENERGY HEALING
Energy healing- the what, when, and how behind this ancient spiritual practice.
Tapping into the power of energy healing an ancient practice that is recognized throughout the world today as an alternative modality to healing.
Did you know that you have the ability to be an energy healer? We all do. It makes sense if you really think about it. We are made of energy. Everything around us is made of energy. Some of it is light, like the air, and some are more dense, like the chair I’m currently sitting on. All those millions and billions of tiny little atoms are vibrating at their own frequency and coming together to make all the things around us, including us. For some, energy healing comes easy, while for others, it takes practice. The big secret to energy healing is just getting out of the way and letting the energy flow and do its thing. Try making a chi ball. Place your hands very close together without touching them. Imagine the energy flowing from the left hand to the right hand and back again. Before long, you will notice a tingle in one hand or both or maybe just in a particular spot. Maybe you’ll notice a twitch in a muscle or heat starting to build between your hands. Once the energy starts flowing, you can start to play with it. How far can you get your hands apart before you don’t feel the energy? It’s all energy.
Energy is known by many different names: prana, chi, ki, to name a few. There are just as many types of energy healing modalities: Reiki, Qi Gong, acupuncture, and even crystals are all forms of energy healing. No matter the name, the principle is the same: to move energy in and through the body. Some energy modalities focus mainly on the chakras. Chakras are like wheels that rotate throughout the body. Others work with the meridians that run through the body, much like a highway. In both cases, “blockages” and “obstacles” are moved to bring balance and harmony to the body. Why is this important? When chakras and meridians are “clogged up,” your energy cannot flow properly. Imagine a pipe or drain that is clogged. They run slowly or just stop draining, causing chaos in the sink. Our bodies do much the same. We start to feel drained of energy: we can be moody and lethargic. If we stay “clogged up” for long periods of time, the disease can appear. The flow of energy helps keep us healthy in body, mind, and spirit, and as we keep our body, mind, and spirit healthy, our prana flows more thoroughly. Modern-day living offers plenty of opportunities for our energy centers to become clogged.
Some examples include:
- Our posture from spending time on the computer or in front of a screen or just sitting for long periods of time
- Being disconnected from nature
- Worrying about home, work, or the kids
- Stressing about anything
- Holding on to resentment and anger
- Eating foods high in fats and sugars
- Lack of exercise
As with anything else, it is important to find the modality that works for you. I personally love Reiki: it has been my go-to from the start of my spiritual journey. It has a gentle and loving way of getting the energy moving. One of my co-creators at the center prefers Qigong, as she likes to take a more active part in moving energy.
Do some research, see what speaks to you, and find an experienced, credible practitioner.
