Five ways to strengthen your spirituality
Here’s my secret to peace during turbulent times
I recently had a spa day, meaning I squeezed in a much overdue manicure, pedicure. What I noticed chilling to a little Allman brothers on my airpods all cozy in my massage chair was the amount of ladies that were all holding sorrow. Yes, I couldn’t help but hone in on their vibe! It was way too apparent- with all the gloomy faces sitting amongst one another. So this sparked some more curiosity- with everything going on over the past few years- it’s obvious that we as a collective society are feeling the effects of EVERYTHING!
Birth and transformation is dark and difficult
Yes, we are as a collective whole going through a rebirth, and transformation. Covid may have felt like a purge for many of us. We lost loved ones, old ones, healthy ones so suddenly some covid related, others were not. I had one client explain their experience, “ It feels like people are being plucked up, and just like that they are gone,” and just when we think we can take a breath, another variant hits, or we see the madness being squeezed out in forms of destruction and hate. People are angry, scared, and exhausted! Not only are we individually fighting an uphill battle- the world is too. However- remember what Aristotle Onassis said “ It is during our darkest hour that we must focus to see the light”.
He is correct. As a whole, we must focus on the light, push light, raise our vibration because at the end of all this light will always prevail over darkness.
So how can you raise your vibration, find peace during crap times? Here’s my secret to peace, not Dalai lama, Ticht Nat Hahn peace, more like how you can begin to grasp moments of peace to collect your breath.
Make time for yourself
I don’t care how busy your day is or where you are, find time, schedule time, turn off the TV, put your phone down and simply connect with your breath. Breath work is the easiest form of releasing anxiety, stress, anger, sorrow-whatever you may be experiencing that day, or moment breath work is fundamental. YouTube offers a ton of breath work videos for newbies!
Insert-big sigh! I may sound like a broken record, but I really do promise you that journaling is absolutely one hundred percent going to connect you to a higher source, gratitude, faith and all the above that we need to believe in to shift our energy from fear-based to love/heart-centred. I recommend daily, throw in an affirmation, what you are thankful for, even how you will show up for yourself, your kids, spouse etc… The goal is to shift your awareness from one of fear, anger to love, heart-centered.
Connect with Nature
The benefits of nature mind body and spirit completely outway the inconvenience of getting in your car, bundling up in warm weather gear. Nature, the smells, sounds and sights are like soul food. Nature elements are very grounding, I find myself gravitating to nature hikes when I need to connect to my deeper self. The reward of enjoying some breathtaking moments like the seasons changing or wildlife in itself can help shift someone’s gloomy perspective. My best conversations with my girlfriends are usually nature-driven, us a walking path in the woods and good heartfelt conversation.
Don’t call my bluff until you try it! Meditation is proven to reduce heart rate, blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. If you still doubt me, check out this Harvard article.
Reflective prayer, the rosary, pop on a youtube meditation, whatever you need to do to let go and just be in the moment, meditation, breath work can get you there.
Embracing the Change
I literally received this message the other day as I submitted my last chapter of my memoir to the publisher. We are ending a cycle spiritually, and it’s way too coincidental as I whip together this article, I am preparing to jet off to Utah and pick my son up from boarding school and bring him home permanently. We are meant to be in this period of closure, releasing patterns of behaviors, letting go of toxic habits or people is still the current vibe- we are shedding skin, like a snake. Allow the release to happen, embrace the upcoming shifts and change; those dark days are nearing their end.
