Communication breakdown, could it be your throat chakra?
Want to know if your throat chakra is blocked?
Your throat chakra is at the base of the throat, this is your communication center. When our throat chakra is open we can freely express our truths about how we feel mentally and emotionally. The throat chakra helps us stand in our power as we are able to openly express the truths about ourselves.
The throat chakra or Vishudda is the 5th and smallest of the 7 major chakras. It is blue in color and located at the base of the throat. This is our communication center and is where we speak our truths in the world, the “I express” center. It is about self-expression and being true to ourselves. Vishudda is about expressing our whole selves, our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual feelings, and our needs and desires. When this chakra is flowing and well-balanced, we have the ability to speak up and ask for what we need. It is also important to note that listening is associated with this chakra as well. Being in balance means listening as much as we talk and not only listening to what another is saying but listening to understand. Be mindful when you are in a conversation, are you listening to respond or listening to understand?
Even though this is the smallest of the chakras, it is the one that gives us the most trouble. When the throat chakra is out of balance, we find ourselves having trouble saying what we want to say, asking for what we need, and talking more than listening. Often we feel like we are not being heard, people misunderstand what we are saying, or plainly cannot get the words out at all. On the other side of that, we might dominate conversations and not let others speak or express themselves, complain or gossip excessively, or even speak aggressively or without thinking.
Vishudda rules the areas of the ears, mouth, and neck. When the 5th chakra is out of balance, issues with the throat, thyroid, and larynx can arise as can issues in the sinuses, ears, and jaw. Really any ailment that occurs from the ears to the base of the neck is connected to an imbalance of this chakra.
Fortunately, there are a plethora of ways to help open and balance this essential chakra. As with all of the chakras, meditating on it, incorporating it’s color into your life, and stretching the area are extremely helpful. Practise listening to a trusted friend or child. Find a throat opening meditation or songs that use vibrations that target this chakra. Utilize your throat and voice through singing, chanting, and mantra. Recite poetry or speeches that you or someone else has written. Journal. Write letters. Laugh. Anything that gets the energy in the throat moving.
So speak your truth, sing your joy, and emanate your love through the vibration of your words.
